The Musical.ly app was removed as of Thursday, August 2. Users will be transferred to TikTok, a similar short-form video-sharing service from Chinese internet company Bytedance, in order to replace the Musical.ly platform.

Your musical.ly account will be transferred to TikTok. Following the merger last year, TikTok has acquired musical.ly and integrated it into a version of TikTok that offers users a simple customized viewing experience.

We want to capture the world’s creativity and knowledge under this new name, and we want to remind everyone to treasure every precious life moment. Given the shared goal of both services: to establish a community where everyone can be a maker, it was an obvious fit for us to combine Musical.ly and TikTok.

This online self-learning platform, however, did not get enough traction after it was launched and the material developed was not engaging. They were unable to obtain further investment and, once they lost momentum, they closed the service down.

Users can now watch, produce, and share 15-second videos shot on smartphones using TikTok. The Chinese technology firm ByteDance developed the app in 2016.
