Since that time it’s become increasingly harder, if not impossible, to get your hands on this skin, due to the lack of game codes and that Riot games also deactivated skin codes within the game to fight against scammers.

Previously it was possible to purchase a code to unlock the skin  – however, with this feature it’s now unavailable within the game and players can no longer use it as valid method. And this skin is so sought after by players that there is currently a petition in place on change.org for the re-release of Championship Riven which has over 14,000 signatures on it.

However don’t fear because good news is on the way.

Riot Confirms the Return of Championship Riven

Recently Rift Herald reported that Paul “Pabro” Bellezza, part of the LoL Personalization Content Team (AKA Skins Team), posted an update on the PBE boards which highlighted that Championship Riven will once again be available to purchase again in 2016. Here’s what he had to say:

Riot also provided confirmation to the prior comments and in the not too distant future we will once again have the opportunity to get our hands on the Championship Riven skin.

Secondly, we’re creating a “vintage” version of her in-game model that features an exclusive crown and a glowing particle on her sword when her ultimate, “Blade of the Exile” is activated. Original owners will get the “vintage” version of her updated model and the new version as well.

So What Happens If You Already Have It?

Players who had previously purchased or attained the skin will be happy to know that they haven’t been forgotten by Riot and will be receiving exclusive features such as glowing particles on Riven’s sword as well as a vintage loading screen banner.

When will Championship Riven Be Released?

So the burning question is…when will Riot make the release? Given that it’s already September at the time of writing, then it’s safe to say the skin may be re-released in the next four months.

Specifically, we are looking for a solution that satisfies both existing owners and players who love the skin but were unable to get it the first time around. This is tricky because while players love the skin for the content, while others value it more because she’s rare.

We’ve discussed a handful of options but haven’t settled on one. Would love to hear your ideas and feedback on what solutions could work for both groups.

As with any news in the gaming industry, nothing is definite. So Riot may decide to push back the relaunch of this skin for any number of reasons. If you’re a fan of the skin and an avid League player, then keep your eyes peeled and make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to gain this skin for your account.

Given the rarity of skins and the fact that players can never be 100% sure a skin will ever return the game, the Championship Riven skin will certainly gain the attention of players who are collectors – and potentially those who want to make money from selling accounts with this skin in the future. Accounts with this skin can already fetch as high as $500 dollars US on eBay and other online marketplaces.
